In at the deep end

November 11, 2021
LET’S JUST SAY THE LAST 12 MONTHS HAVE BEEN SOMETHING OF A BAPTISM BY FIRE

For anyone starting a new post ideally you want to ease in gently, get the lay of the land, see everything in normal operation, and then think about making your own mark.

BUT WAIT…

Throw a global pandemic into the mix and the huge uncertainty of whether legal or safety restrictions will still be in place and it’s a whole new ball game.

With arts organisations across the country desperately trying to stay afloat and individual artists looking for any way to survive, charitable trusts and foundations have been pushed to the breaking point to try and meet this demand.

Just imagine the knock-on effects for trying to plan a 9-day festival.

Can it take place?
Will people be able to attend live?
How do we reach those that cannot attend?
How do we try and keep everyone safe?
Will we get the funding to make it happen?

A LEAP OF FAITH

This time last year everyone had already endured 6 months of lockdown and isolation from loved ones. With more on the way we decided it was absolutely essential to press ahead despite all the uncertainties and try to bring music back for everyone in the Lake District to enjoy.

Even with last-minute government U-turns we were so thrilled to welcome people to live and digital events and to keep our promise to so many artists and musicians we had hoped to see before the 2020 festival was forced to cancel.

The support to make the 2021 festival has been amazing from our audiences and all corners of our festival family – we couldn’t have done it without you!

So as the new era of our summer festival continues to grow, we thought you might like to join us on our monthly blog as we grapple with plans for the future.
